EditKing George V

King George V

Names: George, Frederick, Ernest, Albert

Reign: 6th of May 1910 - 20th of January 1936 : 26 Years.

Prince George, the younger son of Prince Albert Edward and Princess Alexandra, was born in Marlborough House, London during the reign of his grandmother, Queen Victoria. At the time of his birth, his father, the eldest son of Queen Victoria, was the first in the line of succession, followed by his elder brother, Prince Albert Victor. As the third in line, Prince George was not expected to become king.

A month after his birth, Prince George was baptized at Windsor Castle by Charles Longley, the Archbishop of Canterbury at the time. At the age of six, he began his education with John Neale Dalton, alongside his elder brother. However, their father believed that the navy would provide the best training for them, and at the age of 12, Prince George and his brother joined the Navy as midshipmen on HMS Bacchante, touring the colonies of the British Empire. During a visit to Japan in 1881, Prince George got a tattoo of a blue and red dragon on his arm.

While serving in the navy, Prince George fell in love with his cousin, Princess Marie. His father and grandmother were in favor of the relationship, but his mother and aunt were against it. Prince George proposed to Princess Marie, but she refused. In 1891, Prince Albert became engaged to Princess Victoria Mary, but died less than two months later of pneumonia, which made Prince George second in the line of succession after his father. A year later, Prince George proposed to Princess Mary, and they were married on July 6, 1893. They had five sons and one daughter.

In 1901, Queen Victoria died, and Prince Albert Edward became king as Edward VII. When Edward VII died in 1910, the throne passed to his son, who became King George V. In 1914, World War I began, and King George declared war against Germany. In 1917, he changed the British royal house name from the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to the House of Windsor, and relinquished the German titles and styles of his British relatives to adopt British-sounding surnames.

During World War I, King George was injured in 1915, and his heavy smoking caused breathing problems. In 1928, he fell ill with septicaemia, and his son, Prince Edward, took over many of his duties for the next two years. King George's death was hastened by his physician, Lord Dawson of Penn, who admitted in his diary that he injected the king with two lethal injections after 11 PM, leading to his death at 11:55 PM. Dawson justified his action as preserving the king's dignity.

EditQueen Mary

Queen Mary

Names:Victoria Mary Augusta Louise Olga Pauline Claudine Agnes

Princess Mary of Teck, born at Kensington Palace in London, was the firstborn among four children and the only daughter of Francis, Duke of Teck, a German nobleman, and Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge, who was the granddaughter of King George III. Her baptism was conducted by Charles Thomas Longley, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who had also baptized her future husband, Prince George, many years prior.

Princess Mary possessed a strong character and a deep sense of duty. Queen Victoria held a great fondness for her and considered her a suitable wife for a future king. Princess Mary was set to marry Prince Albert Victor, who at the time was second in line to the throne. Prince Albert proposed to Princess Mary, and she accepted his proposal on December 3, 1891, when she was 24 years old. However, their marriage was not destined to take place, as Prince Albert passed away just six weeks after their engagement.

During the period of mourning, Princess Mary grew close to Prince George, Albert's younger brother. Two years later, Prince George proposed to Princess Mary, and she accepted. They shared a deep love for each other, and when they were apart, Prince George would write to her every day.

During King George's illness, Princess Mary remained supportive and took excellent care of him. One of King George's doctors, Sir Farquhar Buzzard, credited her with saving the king's life, answering "The Queen" when asked about who had preserved the king's life. After King George's death, her eldest son ascended the throne as Edward VIII, and Princess Mary became the Queen Mother.

Tragically, Princess Mary outlived three of her sons. Her youngest son, Prince John, passed away in 1919, followed by Prince George in 1942. In 1952, her second son and the reigning King at the time, King George VI, died.
